I will be preaching from Mark 10:35-45 on Sunday morning.
A related text will be John 13:1-17.
I would also like everyone to be thinking about the specific ways that God has gifted them to serve.

Gavin, this lesson seems very appropriate at this time in our studies. It appears from this lesson if we truly want to grow our church and add numbers to the Lord that we all need to become servants and do more not only in our church but also in our community. I know that I can do more. Sometimes I need a little encouragment or maybe even a direct order to get out and get to work.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should consider some type of community service project to bring glory to the Lord.
David
I agree David. The word servant is the Greek word, diakonos. It's where we get the transliterated (not translated) word deacon. This word could be traslated servant, minister, attendant, etc. And he goes on to explain it further as slave (or doulos), one without rights. So, we are to be servants by giving up our rights, unlike a slave who simply doesn't have rights. That is hard to do in a culture where so much emphasis is put on prestige, power, popularity, money, and my rights. Definitely need reminders of this!
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this. I believe it will help us keep direction and focus our studies as we see the day approaching.
